Maritime Piracy: It’s implication on the Somali youth and socio-economic development in Somalia

We are pleased to invite you to our first town hall meeting to discuss IPSOS-Synovate survey on the opinion of the Somali people on piracy.
Somali Anti-Piracy Information Centre (SAPIC) commissioned the research as part of its community mobilization programmes against piracy in South Central Somalia and Dadaab refugee camps.
During the forum, the Minister of Interior and Internal Security , Deputy Minister of information , Post and Telecommunication of Somalia , other representatives from the Somali Federal Government, religious leaders and experts on piracy will lead discussions that will draw local solutions to Somali piracy.
Participants of the meeting include actors from the Somali government, international community, policy makers, youth groups, council of religious scholars, traditional leaders, women and the members of the civil society in Somalia.

The town hall meeting will take place tomorrow May 4, 2013, from 10.30am to 12.45PM at Jazeera Palace Hotel, Airport Road, Mogadishu Somalia.

Somali Anti-Piracy Information Centre (SAPIC) is a Somalia based community organization that advocates for the ending of piracy on Somali and international waters through community and international engagement.
SAPIC is a non-governmental organization that acts as a focal point in the fight against maritime crime by informing the public about the detrimental effects of piracy, alternative livelihood and sources of income and efforts by local and international organizations to fight piracy.
SAPIC empowers Somali communities to report piracy. The advocacy centre makes information on maritime crime readily accessible and provides space for information exchange and community engagement.
Through town hall meetings with religious , business and community leaders, youth and women groups, local, regional and national administration; SAPIC seeks to engage all stakeholders in efforts to fight piracy and explore suitable vocational enterprises for potential recruits as well as other interventions suitable to Somali communities.
SAPIC shares the aspirations of the Somali people and supports efforts that will create a safe and secure Somalia to enable reconstruction, economic development and improved livelihood.
