Training Media/Journalism Course opportunity.

Position Summary: Relief International (RI), an international relief and development

agency with cross-sectoral programs bridging relief and development in more than 26

countries in the world. .

RI Somalia has been implementing Media Education for Development, Inclusive and

Awareness (MEDIA) Project in Puntland and central region on Somalia since January,

2012. The overall objective of the action is to improve the right to freedom of opinion

and freedom of expression in Puntland state – thus enhancing respect for human rights

and encouraging advocacy for the benefit of the community at large. The specific

objective is to empower Somali journalists, with professional skills and techniques, to

enable them to raise the standards of journalism for positive use in the country and as a

tool for peace-building.

Relief International is Training 28 Somali Journalists from Puntlan under Media Training

& Resource Center in Garowe, Puntland, Somalia. The trainers will be trained by ToT

and will be given complete media training skills and certification after successfully

completing the course.

Contents of the Course.

2. Critical thinking

3. News writing, Editing and reporting

4. Feature Writing

5. Photography

6. Introduction to mass communication

7. Media law and Ethics

8. Mass Media and society

9.Elements of media research

10. Elements of Investigative journalism

11. Introduction to online journalism

12. Computer-assisted reporting

13. Digital content production

14. Mobile journalism

15. Practicum (9 hours per week)

Broadcast & Print Journalism courses

1. Broadcast equipment and studio operations

2. Radio and audio production

3. Television and video production

4. Broadcast news production

5. Broadcast presentation techniques

6. Typographic design

7. Editorial writing

8. Freelance Journalism

9. Reporting on various events (Business, sports, politics, conflict, culture, education etc…)

10. Field production

11. Documentaries and docudramas

12. Media management

13. Practicum (12 hours per week)

Minimum Requirements/Criteria

1. Secondary level/Equivalent experience.

2. Journalists at work

3. University students who are Willing to be Journalists.

4. Disciplined person

5. He/she must have time for class attendance

6. Learning session to be 5—8 hours

7. He/she must be between 18-35 years old.

8. Having an experience for Media is an asset

9. He/she will sign a commitment document to finish the course.

• Highly organised and self motivated.

• .Spoken basic English is an asset
